12/31/2017 0 Comments December 31st, 2017What a year. We're heading into new territory that looks suspiciously familiar. Just like every new year. I have resolutions and I am resolved that they may change. My main resolution is to be better in the coming year. A better artist, a better teacher, a better maker, a better mom, a better feminist, a better ally, a better environmentalist, a better neighbour, a better contributor to this blog. Not that I feel like I've not been good enough. It is more along the lines of moving forward, improving and learning. In case you've missed it I've started a new blog on this page in addition to this one. While this blog chronicals the lessons and my art instruction with a smattering of my own personal art making the new blog will be specifically for documenting the book making art practice and the way that it progresses and transforms through the year. The title: The Highest Form of Hope, references a quote about art made by the artist Gerhard Richter. It also defines succinctly how I feel headed into this new art practice venture. I am hopeful about where this journey will take me; how it might both stay the course and transform along the way. I hope you take the time to stop by to see how things are progressing, and comment and share if you see something you like. Our winter break has been full of family time. We spent the 25th with extended family, took in the in theatre screening of the Doctor Who Christmas Special (to say goodbye to the 12th Doctor and to welcome the 13th) and rode the ferry to Nanaimo to visit dear family friends in their new home. We look forward to a week of art making at Artspace and Muckabout Gift Gallery with more opportunity to see friends and family and enough food to last at least a week and a half with left overs. I wish you and yours much joy this holiday season. I hope that your celebrations were full of love and warmth. The last year was not an easy one for many people; I wish you a new year full of your own brand of being better, whatever it may be for you and your loved ones. HAPPY 2018!

12/16/2017 0 Comments Tick Tick Tickit's inevitable; I always get REM stuck in my head at the end of the term. Last week I ended two of the four classes I've been teaching at Artspace. It was a whirlwind week with all the final projects, art collecting and packaging and prepping for the group show I am in this month. If you haven't seen the Home page yet, pop over to see the feature article and pictures from the opening art reception from last night. Instead of your standard wine and cheese event we opted for a nonstandard wine and journalling event. We made art, told stories and shared the hard work of the last few months with friends, family and a few new acquaintances. For those friends who stopped by Thank you the love and support means the world. For those who couldn't make it the love and support still means the world. I'm not quite finished with my fall term classes yet. I have two classes that continue on for two weeks to make up for holidays. I'll be returning to these classes in the new year and adding a new class to my Tuesday afternoon roster. My plan is to update my calender here to show the new classes I"ll be doing in the new year and links to help you register. If you sign up for my newsletter you can be notified first about these updates and any other exciting news. One of my goals this year is to build my mailing list so I can connect more easliy with you. I promise not to be an over mailer. One or two newsletters a month is what you can expect from me with some lovely little perks sprinkled in to keep it interesting. 12/3/2017 0 Comments Popping in with a few picturesI think that I may annually be suppressing the memory of houw busy I actually am on any durng the months of November and December. I always feel like I've got too much going on and that I'm not going to get anything done and then it's done and I look back at what I did last year and the year before and the year before that and wow was I ever just as busy. This week I'm hanging the art show I'm in and I'll have pictures and more details about that coming soon. Right now I'm procrastinating writing an artist statement for the show and I should really get on that. I'm finishing up my fall term lessons at Artspace and headed into the holiday season over at Muckabout. I created some advent kits there which will still be available until Wednesday December 6th it's still early enough to start a countdown. I'm also working on some holiday items that I'm hoping to get finished for this week. |
