2/10/2018 0 Comments and then another week blew pastWhat with one thing and another time is just flying. Already we have earlier sunrises and sunsets happen a little bit later.
This week I spent a little less time in the studio for my own things and some sourcing materials, some extra time in the library and online doing a little research. I also spent some time organizing an educational visit to the Rennie Gallery in Vancouver to participate in the Yoko Ono Mend Piece taht they are hosting mext month. If that goes well I may start adding adult field trips to my Muckabout repetoire. We'll see. My students this week were amazing once again. I did the same project with both my preschoolers and my school aged students with an adjustment for hte older students. We did monoprinting with masks and the older students added line and dots to create more detail and texture to their finished art. My independant students are working on guided and independant projects that are going very well. One student has finsihed a canvas work and is well on her way to finishing two more. My other students are getting set (although they don't know it yet to start working on bigger canvases as well. We've been practicing daily sketchining with weekly homework in the form of sketchbook prompts. This weeks prompt is going to be more specific towards working up to a project that is entirely conceived and executed by them. For these students I find that I am more of a cheerleader and prodder than an instructor. I'm there to offer advice and suggestions, to listen to their ideas and to crack a whip when needed. busy weeks come frequently these days. Last week was one. So busy in fact that one of my classes didn't get documented. The art is truly finished so we can let it slide and I hope to either finish it with the class today or photograph it to share at the least.
My painting and drawing students made art based on Jackson John's number series. I hosted a school workshop about West Coast Marine Life on Wednesday. Saturday night I was invited to a local church for a Sunday School Sleep over to teach a painting project. I revisited the Jackson Johns project on canvas instead of paper. This project is so much fun and impactful when finished that I'm adjusting it for an adult audience and will be offering it as a Spirited Paint night at Muckabout; Our version of the very popular Paint and Sip nights. Our nights differ from most others because our participants all leave with with unique paintings or artwork. None are exactly the same! I finished off the week by hosting a Unicorn birthday party. Please share your favourite project of this week in the comments section. |
